My Journey from Unemployment to Building a B2B Website (And Stuck at Promotion

The day I got laid off, I sat at my desk staring at the screen, not knowing what to do next. For the first time, I really took the time to look into AI—like, really dive into it instead of just scrolling past news about it. And honestly? I was blown away. It felt like a whole new world opened up, something that could change so many things, including maybe my own path.

I’m not a tech expert by any means. Before unemployment, I was just doing regular office work, nothing related to coding, websites, or AI. But that day, seeing how powerful AI is—how it could automate tasks, solve problems, and even create things—I had a random thought: What if I build a website to learn more about it? Not just to pass the time, but to actually pick up new skills, maybe even turn it into something useful.

So I decided to go for it. I spent weeks watching tutorials, fumbling through coding basics, and figuring out how to build a B2B website. It was frustrating at first—so many things I didn’t understand, so many mistakes I made. There were nights I wanted to give up, but I kept going because it felt like the only thing I had going for me at that time. Eventually, after a lot of trial and error, the website was up. It wasn’t perfect, but it was mine.

Here’s the thing, though: building the website was the easy part. The hard part came after—promotion. I had no clue what to do. I didn’t know how to get people to find my website, let alone use the product I put so much effort into. I tried posting on some social media platforms, sent a few emails to random businesses, but nothing worked. No views, no sign-ups, no feedback.

Now I’m just stuck. I put all my energy into building something, but I have no direction when it comes to getting it out there. I keep asking myself: Am I doing this wrong? Is my product not good enough? How do other people get their websites noticed? It’s overwhelming, honestly. I went from being excited about learning something new to feeling lost and unsure of what to do next.

I guess this is just part of the journey—figuring things out as I go. But if anyone has been in the same boat, building a website after unemployment and struggling with promotion, I’d love to hear your tips. Right now, I’m just taking it one day at a time, hoping that eventually, someone will find my website and see the effort I put into it.
